The new UK ambassador to the US, Lord Mandelson, caused a bit of a stir when he appeared to contradict government policy by saying Ukraine "should be the first to commit to a ceasefire and defy the Russians to follow".

Sky's Wilfred Frost asked Defence Minister Luke Pollard about Mandelson's comments, and he replied: "That's not government policy."
